CVE-2024-35204

Local arbitrary file creation via log redirection

Published May 13, 2024 · Updated Oct 1, 2024

Improper permissions in Veritas System Recovery before 23.3_Hotfix allow local users to create arbitrary files in protected locations. The SYSTEM-level VProSvc.exe logger leaves its log file unprotected inside a low-privileged-user-writable directory, permitting junction or symbolic-link redirection. Exploitation requires the service to be running and local low-privileged access; redirected writes can tamper with protected files or interrupt backup services.
