CVE-2024-35177Public exploit

SYSTEM code execution via writable custom installation directory

Published Feb 3, 2025 · Updated Feb 4, 2025

Local privilege escalation in Wazuh Agent 3.0.0 and later before 4.9.0 for Windows allows local users to execute code as SYSTEM. The MSI installer applies an improper ACL to a non-default installation directory, allowing low-privileged users to add a missing DLL such as rsync.dll or replace wazuh-agent.exe. Execution occurs when the Wazuh service restarts or the host reboots; ordinary users cannot restart the service by default.
