Admin-to-owner escalation via unchecked role update
Published Jun 6, 2024 · Updated Oct 15, 2025
Incorrect authorization in Lunary before 1.2.7 allows remote authenticated users with admin access to promote an organization user to owner. The PATCH user handler accepts the owner role from UpdateUserSchema and updates the target account without blocking administrators from assigning that role. An administrator can then use the promoted account’s owner privileges to delete projects in the same organization.
