CVE-2024-34741

Local lock-screen message disclosure via overlay subwindows

Published Aug 15, 2024 · Updated Aug 27, 2024

Privilege escalation in Google Android 12, 12L, 13, and 14 allows local users to expose restricted messages on the screensaver. WindowState.setForceHideNonSystemOverlayWindowIfNeeded checks a child window's declared type instead of its base window type, so subwindows escape the hide-overlay decision applied to their parent. A locally installed app needs no additional execution privileges or user interaction to reveal message content despite lock-screen visibility restrictions.
