Privileged directory access via improper path validation
Published Sep 4, 2024 · Updated Sep 4, 2024
Path traversal in Samsung Mobile Devices before SMR Sep-2024 Release 1 allows physically proximate attackers to access privileged directories. Samsung states that the file-manager component fails to validate path input properly, but the affected request path, parser, and filesystem operation remain undisclosed. Physical possession of a device running Android 12, 13, or 14 is required, and the published consequence is limited to directory access with file-manager privileges.
