Kiosk escape via delayed forced logout
Published May 9, 2024 · Updated Aug 1, 2024
Improper alternate-path protection in KioWare for Windows 8.34 and earlier allows local users to launch arbitrary programs. During exit, KioWare starts forced automatic logout but leaves a brief interval in which an already open application's file-browsing functions remain usable. Exploitation requires the exit PIN, a suitable application running before KioWare starts, and deliberate slowdown to extend the interval.
