Plot data control via predictable temporary filenames
Published May 5, 2024 · Updated Aug 2, 2024
Insecure temporary files in Maxima through 5.47.0 before 51704c allow local users to control plotting data via precreated /tmp files. Plotting facilities such as plot2d generate guessable names in the shared, world-writable /tmp directory instead of securely creating randomized files. Another local account must create the expected names first; the established consequence is control of plot-related temporary-file contents.
