Weight disclosure via unauthenticated BLE advertisements
Published Sep 3, 2024 · Updated Sep 3, 2024
Cleartext transmission in BPL Medical Technologies PWS-01-BT devices allows physically proximate attackers to read weight data over BLE. The scale emits 17-byte BLE advertisements beginning with 10FF, and payload bytes four and five encode measured weight without encryption. No pairing or authentication is required; Bluetooth proximity is the gate, and the packets also lack integrity protection against modification.
