CVE-2024-34459

Process memory over-read via unchecked error cursor

Published May 13, 2024 · Updated Nov 4, 2025

Buffer over-read in XMLSoft xmllint before 2.11.8 and 2.12.0 through 2.12.6 allows local users to read outside an input buffer. The xmlHTMLPrintFileContext routine walks backward over newline and carriage-return bytes while formatting --htmlout errors but fails to stop at the buffer base. Exploitation requires local execution with --htmlout and input that provokes error-context formatting; the bounded consequence is an out-of-bounds read in that process.
