Administrator stored XSS via unsanitized settings
Published May 9, 2024 · Updated Apr 28, 2026
Stored XSS in OpenWeb Comments Evolved for WordPress 1.6.3 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to inject scripts via admin settings. The plugin stores administrator-supplied settings without sufficient input sanitization, then renders them without adequate output escaping on pages viewed by other users. Administrator privileges are required, and exposure is limited to multisite installations or sites where unfiltered_html is disabled; successful exploitation executes attacker-controlled script in a visitor's browser.
