CVE-2024-34359Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Code execution via unsandboxed model chat templates

Published May 10, 2024 · Updated Aug 2, 2024

Server-side template injection in abetlen llama-cpp-python 0.2.30 through 0.2.71 allows attackers to execute code via a malicious GGUF model. Jinja2ChatFormatter compiles tokenizer.chat_template metadata with an unsandboxed Jinja2 Environment and renders it while constructing a chat prompt. Exploitation requires an application to load the attacker's model and invoke chat completion, after which commands run with the application's privileges.
