CVE-2024-34346

Sandbox escape via privileged file access

Published May 7, 2024 · Updated Aug 2, 2024

Incorrect authorization in Deno before 1.43.0 allows context-dependent attackers to escape sandbox limits through privileged files. The runtime treats broad --allow-read or --allow-write grants as sufficient for privileged paths, so /proc/self/environ exposes environment data and /proc/self/mem can confer unrestricted access. Execution of attacker-controlled code with broad filesystem permission is required, and impact can include host data disclosure, modification, and service interruption.
