Session script execution via unsanitized pasted HTML
Published May 7, 2024 · Updated Aug 2, 2024
XSS in 37signals Trix 0.9.0 through 1.3.1 and 2.0.0 through 2.1.0 allows attackers to execute JavaScript via pasted HTML. The HTML sanitizer retains noscript elements that can be reparsed into active event handlers, while the data-trix-attachment parser accepts embedded HTML content without sanitizing it. Exploitation requires a user to copy attacker-controlled markup and paste it into an editor; the script runs in that user's application session and can read or alter accessible session data.
