SYSTEM code execution via writable DLL search path
Published Jul 22, 2024 · Updated Mar 14, 2025
Privilege escalation in Entrust XPS Card Printer Driver 8.5 and earlier allows local users to execute arbitrary code as SYSTEM. The installation grants all users full control over its service directory, where the SYSTEM service loads absent DEVOBJ.dll or CFGMGR32.dll files. Exploitation requires low-privileged local access and is triggered when an administrator installs the driver and the service connects to a printer.
