Arbitrary file read via overlapping traversal sequences
Published May 7, 2024 · Updated Mar 14, 2025
Path traversal in CmsEasy 7.7.7.9 allows remote authenticated users to read arbitrary files through a crafted template identifier. The fetch_action method in lib/admin/template_admin.php removes ../ and ./ substrings only once, allowing overlapping ...../// sequences to collapse into traversal paths before file_get_contents reads the resolved file. An administrative session is present in the published request, and the demonstrated consequence is disclosure of server-readable files only.
