Path traversal in Virtual Programming Lab VPL Jail System through 4.0.2 allows remote attackers to overwrite arbitrary files via update requests. ProcessMonitor::writeFile appends each commandUpdate filename to the jail home path without rejecting parent-directory segments before Util::writeFile opens it. The default configuration requires no authentication, and overwriting a loader configuration file enables code execution as root.
