Process crash via unchecked compiler slot range
Published May 6, 2024 · Updated Aug 2, 2024
Out-of-bounds read in Wasm3 0.5.0 allows attackers to crash the command-line runtime with a crafted WebAssembly module. MarkSlotsAllocated fails to reject slot ranges beyond d_m3MaxFunctionSlots, allowing compilation-state corruption that leaves main with a null diagnostic message. Triggering requires the runtime to compile and invoke main from a crafted module; the demonstrated consequence is termination of the Wasm3 process.
