CVE-2024-33904

Local code execution via predictable temporary file

Published Apr 29, 2024 · Updated Aug 22, 2024

Race condition in Hyprland through 0.39.1 allows local users to execute arbitrary assembly code through a predictable temporary file. HookSystem.cpp writes assembler source to /tmp/hypr/.hookcode.asm, invokes cc and objcopy on predictable paths, then loads the resulting bytes. A local user who wins the file race can substitute assembly that executes with the privileges of the Hyprland compositor process.
