Code execution via heap overflow in layout encoding
Published May 9, 2024 · Updated Feb 13, 2025
Heap buffer overflow in HDF5 Library 1.14.3 and earlier allows local users to crash a process through crafted HDF5 layout data. The H5O__layout_encode routine in H5Olayout.c writes malformed dataset layout data beyond its heap allocation during encoding. Local access to make the library process hostile HDF5 data is required; the resulting instruction-pointer corruption can terminate the process or enable code execution.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
