CVE-2024-33867

Offline password cracking via hardcoded salt

Published May 14, 2024 · Updated Feb 13, 2025

Use of a hardcoded password salt in linqi before 1.4.0.1 on Windows allows local users to accelerate offline password cracking. The password-hashing implementation embeds a reusable salt in the software rather than generating unique unpredictable salts. Exploitation requires high privileges, user interaction, and access to the source code or binaries; the bounded consequence is reduced resistance to dictionary and rainbow-table attacks.
