Connection crash via hash-join row indexing
Published May 24, 2024 · Updated Mar 13, 2025
Buffer overflow in PingCAP TiDB Server 7.5.0 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to crash their database connection via crafted SQL. During a crafted hash join, probeWorker calls Chunk.AppendRowByColIdxs along a path that lets appendCellByCell access column index 431 in a one-cell row. Database access is required; the panic ends only the initiating connection, which can reconnect, without interrupting other users or the server.
