CVE-2024-33664Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Service interruption via unbounded JWE decompression

Published Apr 25, 2024 · Updated Sep 5, 2024

Uncontrolled resource consumption in python-jose 3.3.0 and earlier allows remote attackers to interrupt services via crafted JWE tokens. The jwe.decrypt path passes attacker-controlled DEFLATE-compressed plaintext to zlib.decompress without bounding decompressed output. Any network service that decrypts attacker-supplied compressed JWE tokens can consume excessive memory and CPU, delaying or terminating request processing.
