CVE-2024-33662Network attack vector

Backup disclosure and tampering via zero-IV AES-OFB

Published Oct 2, 2024 · Updated Dec 4, 2024

Weak backup encryption in Portainer before 2.20.2 allows attackers to recover or modify password-protected backup data. AesEncrypt derives keys with scrypt using no salt, then encrypts backups in AES-OFB with a zero IV and no message authentication. Exploitation requires access to a password-protected backup; reused passwords and predictable content expose plaintext relationships and undetected tampering.
