CVE-2024-33657

Local code execution via SMM callout

Published Aug 21, 2024 · Updated Aug 22, 2024

Improper input validation in AMI Aptio V 5.0 through 5.36 allows local users to execute code in SMM through the SmmComputrace module. The module insufficiently validates caller-controlled data before an SMM callout, enabling stack-memory manipulation and copying SMRAM data into kernel space. Low-privilege local access is required, without user interaction; exploitation can disclose firmware-protected data, execute arbitrary code, or crash the platform.
