Code execution via BMP parser over-read
Published Jul 9, 2024 · Updated Aug 2, 2024
Out-of-bounds read in Siemens Simcenter Femap before V2406 allows attackers to execute code after a user opens a crafted BMP file. The BMP parser reads past the end of an allocated structure when processing attacker-controlled file data; Siemens has not disclosed a narrower function or field. Exploitation requires user interaction and runs code with the current process's privileges, while malformed input can also crash the application.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
