Local privilege escalation via unrestricted physical memory mapping
Published May 22, 2024 · Updated Feb 13, 2025
Privilege escalation in Realtek High Definition Audio Driver 6.0.9549.1 allows local users to execute arbitrary code via crafted IOCTL requests. The RTKVHD64.sys IOCTL dispatch path exposes physical-memory mapping and port I/O operations without restricting caller privileges. A low-privileged local account can use DeviceIoControl to read or write physical memory and I/O ports, enabling elevated code execution and information disclosure.
