CVE-2024-32901

Local privilege escalation via unchecked video buffer index

Published Jun 13, 2024 · Updated Mar 24, 2025

Out-of-bounds write in Android's v4l2 component allows local users to elevate privileges through a crafted video-buffer queue request. The v4l2_smfc_qbuf function in smfc-v4l2-ioctls.c uses a queue value without the required bounds check, permitting a write beyond its intended buffer. A local low-privileged process must reach the Pixel-family v4l2 path; no user interaction is required, and successful exploitation raises privileges.
