CVE-2024-32883

False image attestation via unprotected boot-record TLVs

Published Apr 26, 2024 · Updated Aug 2, 2024

Improper integrity validation in MCUboot 1.11.0 and earlier allows local users to inject unsigned metadata into firmware images. The image-validation path accepts dependency and boot-record TLV types from the unprotected TLV section instead of requiring them in the signed protected section. Low-privileged local access and high-complexity image manipulation are required; injected dependencies reject valid images, while boot-record data can misstate image properties in later attestation records.
