CVE-2024-32879Network attack vector

Account impersonation via case-insensitive UID lookup

Published Apr 24, 2024 · Updated Aug 2, 2024

Case-insensitive UID matching in Python Social Auth social-auth-app-django before 5.4.1 allows remote authenticated users to access another account. The UserSocialAuth.get_social_auth method passes the provider and untrusted third-party UID to a database equality filter, so default MySQL or MariaDB collation treats case-distinct identifiers as equal; the patched code verifies the returned UID with a case-sensitive Python comparison. Exploitation requires a third-party login whose UID differs only by letter case from a victim's UID, enabling access to the victim-linked application account without interrupting service.
