CVE-2024-3283Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Manager-to-administrator escalation via unrestricted settings update

Published Apr 10, 2024 · Updated Aug 12, 2024

Mass assignment in AnythingLLM before 1.0.0 allows remote authenticated users with manager roles to create an administrator account. The /admin/system-preferences endpoint passes the full request body to SystemSettings.updateSettings, which accepted multi_user_mode as a user-modifiable key instead of filtering it as protected. A manager account can enable multi-user mode, invoke /api/system/enable-multi-user, and create a new administrator with full control of the service.
