CVE-2024-32622Network attack vector

Process crash or code execution via out-of-bounds read

Published May 9, 2024 · Updated Feb 13, 2025

Out-of-bounds read in HDF5 1.14.3 and earlier allows attackers to crash a process or potentially execute code via crafted data. H5FL_arr_malloc reads beyond an allocation boundary while servicing H5S_set_extent_simple during dataspace extent handling. Exploitation requires an application or tool to process attacker-controlled HDF5 data; upstream release notes describe this flaw class as file-parsing errors that generally cause segmentation faults.
