CVE-2024-32611Network attack vector

Process crash via uninitialized attribute-table entries

Published May 9, 2024 · Updated Feb 13, 2025

Uninitialized-value use in HDF5 1.14.3 and earlier allows attackers to crash a process that parses a crafted HDF5 file. H5A__attr_release_table treats the attribute-table allocation size as the number of initialized entries and can close uninitialized pointers during error cleanup. The attacker must cause a target application or command-line tool to parse the malformed file; the bounded consequence is process termination and service interruption.
