CVE-2024-32610

Process crash via datatype cleanup memory corruption

Published May 9, 2024 · Updated Feb 13, 2025

Memory corruption in HDF5 Library 1.14.3 and earlier allows local users to crash a consuming process during datatype cleanup. The CNA locates the fault in H5T_close_real in H5T.c, while HDF Group's later CVE list labels it a heap buffer overflow in H5T__ref_mem_setnull; the bundled public patch does not resolve this mismatch. Triggering requires local access and high-complexity conditions without authentication or user interaction; the documented result is process termination after instruction-pointer corruption.
