CVE-2024-32606Public exploit

Denial of service via uninitialized-value dereference

Published May 9, 2024 · Updated Feb 13, 2025

Uninitialized-value dereference in HDF5 Library 1.14.3 and earlier allows local users to crash a process via a malformed HDF5 file. During simple-data dumping, h5tools_dump_simple_data passes data to h5tools_str_sprint, which dereferences values that were never initialized. Triggering requires local processing of the crafted file through the affected tools path; the documented consequence is process termination, not code execution.
