Authenticated HTML file read via unnormalized Windows paths

Path traversal in affected WordPress 4.1 through 6.5.4 releases allows remote authenticated users to read HTML files on Windows. The validate_file function checked forward-slash traversal sequences without first normalizing Windows backslashes, allowing crafted paths to escape the intended directory. Contributor-level access is required; published evidence limits the demonstrated consequence to reading .html files and does not establish code execution.
