CVE-2024-32000Network attack vector

Message disclosure via unchecked Matrix reply event

Published Apr 12, 2024 · Updated Aug 2, 2024

Information disclosure in Matrix.org matrix-appservice-irc before 2.0.0 allows remote authenticated users to read truncated messages. When building an IRC representation of a Matrix reply, the bridge includes a truncated body from the referenced event without first checking whether the sender can view that event. The sender must know the event ID and be joined to both the Matrix room and its bridged IRC channel; IRC channel members can then see the excerpt.
