Unauthenticated code execution via incomplete HTML escaping
Published Apr 10, 2024 · Updated Aug 2, 2024
Code injection in affected XWiki Commons releases allows remote attackers to execute code through crafted curly-brace sequences. The EscapeTool.html method uses generic HTML escaping that leaves XWiki syntax delimiters intact, so injected syntax reaches dynamic Velocity evaluation. A standard XWiki installation exposes the flaw through Panels.PanelLayoutUpdate without authentication, granting programming rights and full server code execution.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
