CVE-2024-31994Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Authenticated service crash via unbounded image download

Published Apr 19, 2024 · Updated Oct 25, 2024

Resource exhaustion in Mealie before 1.4.0 allows remote authenticated users to crash the service via a crafted recipe image URL. The scrape_image function downloads the URL response in whole without a size limit or timeout, allowing an oversized file to exhaust container memory. A standard authenticated account can reach the image endpoint; successful exploitation kills the container and can trigger repeated restarts.
