CVE-2024-31990Network attack vector

Unauthorized resource editing via missing project validation

Published Apr 15, 2024 · Updated Aug 2, 2024

Incorrect authorization in the Argo CD API server allows remote authenticated users to edit GitOps-controlled application resources. Application action handlers enforced RBAC against an Application's project but did not verify that its namespace appeared in the AppProject sourceNamespaces list. Exploitation requires a low-privileged account, a crafted invalid Application-to-project relationship, and access to UI actions that modify resources intended to remain Git-controlled.
