Local privilege escalation via installer symlink following
Published May 9, 2024 · Updated Feb 13, 2025
Privilege escalation in Samsung Magician 8.0.0 for macOS allows local users to modify arbitrary file permissions during installation. The installer follows attacker-controlled symbolic links while applying privileged permission changes to files used during setup. Local access alone is insufficient; exploitation also requires an administrator to enter a password during installation, after which protected files can be made attacker-writable.
