CVE-2024-3177Network attack vector

Secret disclosure via unchecked envFrom references

Published Apr 22, 2024 · Updated Sep 10, 2024

Improper input validation in Kubernetes kube-apiserver 1.29.0 through 1.29.3 allows remote authenticated users to read unauthorized Secrets. The ServiceAccount admission plugin's secret-reference checks omit EnvFrom SecretRef entries in regular, init, and ephemeral containers. Exploitation requires high-privilege pod creation or update access, the ServiceAccount plugin, the non-default enforce-mountable-secrets annotation, and envFrom use.
