CVE-2024-31755Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Process crash via unchecked NULL string argument

Published Apr 26, 2024 · Updated Aug 2, 2024

NULL pointer dereference in cJSON 1.7.17 allows attackers to crash a calling process through cJSON_SetValuestring. The function passes its unchecked valuestring argument to strlen and then strcpy, so a NULL second argument is dereferenced before validation. Exploitation requires a consuming application to invoke the API with a NULL valuestring; the resulting segmentation fault terminates that process.
