CVE-2024-31585

Process crash via showspectrumpic frame-array overrun

Published Apr 17, 2024 · Updated Jun 9, 2025

Off-by-one error in FFmpeg n5.1 through n6.1 allows local users to crash the process via crafted input to the showspectrumpic filter. In showspectrumpic_request_frame, an inclusive loop bound permits nb_frame to equal nb_frames before indexing the frames array, producing an out-of-array access. Exploitation requires local low-privileged access and user interaction; the documented consequence is a process crash, not data access or modification.
