Code execution via unbounded XPM error formatting

Stack-based buffer overflow in FreeImage 3.4.0 through 3.18.0 allows attackers to execute code by supplying a crafted XPM file. The PluginXPM.cpp Load function passes an attacker-controlled color-definition string to sprintf, which writes an “Unknown color name” message into the fixed 256-byte msg stack buffer without a length bound. Exploitation requires a consuming application to load an untrusted XPM containing an unrecognized color name, and successful corruption runs code in that application's security context.
