CVE-2024-3154Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Host actions via unfiltered systemd property annotations

Published Apr 26, 2024 · Updated Aug 24, 2026

Command injection in CRI-O 1.27.5, 1.28.5, and 1.29.3 allows remote authenticated users to execute host actions via Pod annotations. CRI-O copies untrusted Pod annotations into OCI runtime annotations without filtering the org.systemd.property prefix, allowing runc to apply attacker-chosen systemd unit properties. Kubernetes permission to create a Pod with arbitrary annotations is required; the demonstrated SuccessAction property can force a host poweroff.
