Improper certificate validation in TP-Link Tether before 4.5.13 and Tapo before 3.3.6 allows man-in-the-middle attackers to read encrypted traffic. The Android applications accept an untrusted server certificate instead of reliably authenticating the server; the specific code locus and validation error are undisclosed. Exploitation requires a malicious wireless LAN access point in the communication path and exposes intercepted data without interrupting service.
