CVE-2024-31336

Kernel code execution via unchecked firmware addresses

Published Sep 11, 2024 · Updated Sep 13, 2024

Out-of-bounds write in Imagination PowerVR GPU DDK 24.1 and earlier allows local users to execute code with kernel privileges. PVRSRVBridgeRGXKickTA3D2 accepts improper GPU system-call data, allowing unchecked firmware addresses to reach PVRSRVRGXKickTA3DKM and be written outside the intended kernel buffer. A nonprivileged application with local driver access is sufficient; no user interaction is required, and successful exploitation gains kernel execution.
