CVE-2024-31333

Kernel privilege escalation via MMU reference-count overflow

Published Aug 15, 2024 · Updated Aug 16, 2024

Integer overflow in PowerVR GPU DDK 24.1 and earlier allows local users to gain kernel privileges through crafted GPU system calls. _MMU_AllocLevel in mmu_common.c permits a reference count to overflow, enabling arbitrary reads and writes of physical memory. A nonprivileged local process must access the GPU driver; no user interaction is required, and successful exploitation compromises the kernel.
