Privilege escalation via background activity launch
Published Mar 2, 2026 · Updated Mar 2, 2026
Privilege escalation in Google Android 14 and 16 allows attackers to launch arbitrary activities on a paired companion phone. BroadcastController.broadcastIntentLockedTraced uses incorrect logic when deciding whether a broadcast may launch an activity in the background. Exploitation requires an adjacent paired-device path but needs no user interaction or additional execution privileges, allowing background-launch restrictions to be bypassed.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
