CVE-2024-31323

Local privilege escalation via Health Connect overlays

Published Jul 9, 2024 · Updated Aug 2, 2024

Local privilege escalation in Health Connect on Android 14 allows local users to obtain health permissions through application overlays. Multiple Health Connect activities failed to set SYSTEM_FLAG_HIDE_NON_SYSTEM_OVERLAY_WINDOWS in onCreate, allowing non-system apps to place deceptive windows above permission UI. A malicious local app needs no additional execution privileges or user interaction; successful exploitation grants health-data permissions.
